FAQ

Questions We Hear All the Time.

We put together honest answers to the things people ask us most. If your question isn't here, reach out. We're always happy to talk.

Getting Started

Our teen driver education program is open to students aged 15 to 17. If you're 15 you can begin classroom instruction and prepare for your permit, and once you have your permit you can begin behind-the-wheel sessions. Adults 18 and older can enroll in our adult driver training program at any time. No prior driving experience required.

For teen students, yes. Washington State requires a valid learner's permit before you can drive on public roads with an instructor. We can walk you through exactly how to get one. For adults enrolling in our training program, the same applies. If you need help understanding the permit process, just ask. We're happy to point you in the right direction.

Yes. SOL Driving School is a Washington State licensed driving school and all of our instructors hold current state certifications. Our teen driver education curriculum meets Washington State requirements, which means completion of our program satisfies the state's mandatory driver education component for young drivers.

We're based in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State and serve students throughout the region. Call us at (509) 542-8890 or send us a message through our contact page and we'll confirm whether we can reach you.

Programs & Lessons

The teen driver education program is a structured curriculum designed around Washington State requirements for drivers ages 15 to 17. It includes classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel driving sessions, and completing it satisfies the state's required driver education hours. Adult driver training is more flexible. It's a series of private, one-on-one behind-the-wheel sessions tailored to your individual skill level, schedule, and goals. No classroom component is required for adults.

That genuinely depends on the individual. Some students are ready to test after just a few sessions. Others need more time to build confidence, and that's completely normal. We don't rush anyone through. After your first session or two, your instructor will give you an honest read of where you stand and what we'd recommend from there.

Absolutely. Our stand-alone behind-the-wheel lessons are available for students of any age and experience level. If you already have some driving experience and just want to sharpen specific skills like parallel parking, freeway driving, or backing up, we can build a session around exactly that.

Yes. Our license test preparation sessions are designed to simulate the actual exam experience. We practice on the routes used by local testing centers, walk through the maneuvers examiners look for, and give you honest feedback on anything that still needs work before you go in. Many students find that one or two focused prep sessions makes a significant difference in how they feel on test day.

Scheduling & Availability

We offer lessons Monday through Saturday with morning, afternoon, and some evening availability depending on the week. Schedules fill up, so we recommend enrolling and getting on the books as soon as you're ready to start. We do our best to work around school, work, and family schedules.

We recommend reaching out at least a week or two before you'd like to start, especially during busy seasons like summer and back-to-school time. That said, if you need to start sooner, contact us anyway. Availability changes and we'll do our best to fit you in.

Life happens. We just ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Last-minute cancellations make it hard to fill that time slot for other students, so we appreciate the heads up. Repeat last-minute cancellations may be subject to a fee.

DriversEdPro Platform

DriversEdPro is the platform SOL Driving School uses to run all of its courses. It is a driver education management system built specifically for driving schools. Through your student account you can follow along with live lessons, complete assignments and quizzes, schedule your behind-the-wheel drives, and track your progress all in one place.

Yes. Once you enroll in a class, DriversEdPro will walk you through setting up your student account and connecting to SOL Driving School. The platform guides you through every step so you know exactly where to go from the start.

DriversEdPro works on any smartphone, tablet, or computer with an internet browser. Most students use their phone to follow along during class. No special app download is required, though a mobile browser works best for in-class use.

Classes are taught live by our instructors, either in person or over Zoom. If you are attending in person, you follow along on your phone through DriversEdPro as the instructor leads the session. For online classes, the Zoom link is accessible directly from your DriversEdPro student dashboard so everything stays in one place.

For online classes, yes. Zoom is free to sign up for and you can create an account at zoom.us before your first session. The meeting link for each online class will be available through your DriversEdPro dashboard. Your instructor will also send details before the class begins.

You can log in at driversedpro.com. Once your account is set up and connected to SOL Driving School, everything you need for your course will be waiting for you there. Bookmark it because it will be the one place you return to throughout your entire program.

Pricing & Enrollment

Pricing varies by program and the number of sessions you book. We'll go over all costs clearly when you contact us. No hidden fees, no surprises. Call us at (509) 542-8890 or fill out our enrollment form and we'll walk you through everything before you commit to anything.

We understand that driver education is an investment. We're happy to discuss payment options when you reach out. Just bring it up when we connect and we'll work with you.

Bring your valid Washington State learner's permit, wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can easily operate the pedals in, and bring any questions you have. That's it. Your instructor will handle the rest.

Yes. Our training vehicles are well-maintained, dual-controlled, and ready to go. You don't need to bring your own vehicle. If you do want to practice in your family's car for familiarity reasons, we can discuss that option as well.
